My heart goes out to Cakie's human parents, Daeya and John, who wrote this fitting obituary in his honor.
SIR ELTON CUPCAKE (1-27-01 to 12-26-09)
The world lost a special soul this holiday when Mr. Cakes was taken by a sudden illness. He leaves behind a heartbroken, yet immensely grateful family.
Cakie endeared himself to everyone from schoolchildren to groomers, as well as the many medical professionals who worked hard to save him over the course of three days. A dedicated pacifist, his greatest hero was Nelson Mandela, with whom he shared a special affinity based on their individual imprisonments. Neither ever lost hope, and both went on to provide living lessons in tolerance.
Cakie never forgot the forgotten. He spent many good hours in front of his vintage typewriter banging out impassioned petitions. He also attended weekly Amnesty International meetings at the Fairmount Wegman's - always outfitted in his favorite clothing item, a little black beret. He also loved to help around the house (his personal motto was "Let's Do It!). He coached Mommie during her workouts, acted as spokesperson on behalf of all the cats at dinner time, and especially loved making music with Daddy on the computer. His greatest musical accomplishment was a short piece entitled "Cake's Mash-Up," in which he can be heard enthusiastically shaking the percussion "egg."
Cakie was buried during the evening of December 26th with the snow softly falling and stars is the sky. He was laid to rest with his little red flashlight, his special oblong dish, and the laser pointer that Santa had brought him. He joins his beloved brother Gatsby, who crossed Rainbow Bridge in June 2009.
